Community Outreach

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Saskatchewan Division Inc. Gambling Awareness Program delivers components of Saskatchewan’s public education and community development problem gambling strategy. Free presentations, information sessions, and interactive displays are available that target students, educators, school administrators, guidance counsellors, principals, older adults, RCMP cadets, individuals in nursing/social work programs, community groups, and the general public. First Nations Addiction Rehabilitation Fund (FNARF) delivers gambling education and awareness workshops at the grassroots level. “If you gamble, do it responsibly” and “What is gambling?” are two examples of some of the presentations that have been delivered. FNARF also periodically hosts a conference entitled Understanding Responsible Gambling, which brings together on-reserve community members, First Nations partners, and other stakeholders involved in the gambling industry to discuss responsible gaming issues.

The FNARF Saskatchewan First Nations Responsible Gambling Technical Working Group (SFNRG-TWG) assists First Nations members living on-reserve with preventive information by referrals to any of the treatment centres related to gambling or drug and alcohol centres. Some referrals are made outside of Saskatchewan depending on the individual and the level of comfort.
